What makes Evident different from standard document management?
Standard document systems are built for general file storage. Free includes: 2 files per upload (25 MB each), 5 pipeline runs monthly, SHA-256 hashing, metadata extraction, basic OCR, and 100 MB storage. Enough to verify the workflow works on your evidence before committing to paid tiers.
When should I upgrade to Starter?
Upgrade to Starter when you have an active self-represented matter needing: 5 files per upload (100 MB each), 25 pipeline runs monthly, full transcription (Whisper), advanced OCR, timeline building, and PDF export with chain of custody.
What does Core add over Starter?
Core adds: 10 files per upload (200 MB each), 100 pipeline runs monthly, contradiction detection, timeline analysis, Brady material review, multi-POV sync, and deeper document intelligence. Designed for active firm matters.
What's the difference between Complete and Core?
Complete adds: 20 files per upload (500 MB each), 500 pipeline runs monthly, eDiscovery suite (legal holds, custodian tracking, production export with Bates stamping), court document formatter, and priority support. For firms with active litigation workflows.

How is evidence integrity maintained?
Every file is hashed with SHA-256 on intake. The hash is recorded in an append-only audit log. All access, transformations, and exports are logged with timestamps and user context. Derivatives include the original hash for traceability.
Can original evidence be modified or deleted?
No. Original evidence is preserved immutably. The system does not permit overwrites, edits, or deletions of originals. Derived outputs (transcripts, OCR, analysis) remain linked to source files with hash verification.
Is audit log data ever purged?
Audit logs are append-only and designed for permanence. They are not edited or overwritten. This supports chain-of-custody continuity and reviewability for legal proceedings.
